Earlier today, I misspelled searching for the keyword Phillipines instead of Philippines and surprisingly found results about the wrong spelling of my country.

The very first entry is from Wikipedia but I took it as Google's initiative about the keyword and gave the correct result for the said keyword. While the following entries of the search results are obviously typographical errors.

Here's the following sites that contains the wrong spelling Phillipines.
  • Philippines Hotspots - the URL http://www.camacdonald.com/birding/asiaphillipines.htm
  • Essential travel .co.uk - Travel to Phillipines with travel insurance from Essential - http://insurance.essentialtravel.co.uk/cityguide/philippines/philippines.htm
  • Daily motion -  Dailymotion - Maxim - Miss Phillipines - a video - http://www.dailymotion.com/family_filter?urlback=%2Fvideo%2Fx331gq_maxim-miss-phillipines
  • World News Network (They should correct this because they built a news site for global coverage and yet they are spreading wrong spelling) - http://upge.wn.com/?template=cheetah-photo-search/index.txt&query=phillipines&language_id=-1

For majority's concern, it's spelled as Philippines. Our country was named after Philip II of Spain when Ruy López de Villalobos reached Samar and Leyte during his expedition. The original Spanish name was Las Islas Filipinas. And in the twentieth century, it was expanded to the entire archipelago. Las Islas Filipinas was later changed into Philippines during the American colonization.
